In August 2008, the eclipse will pass over remote and scenic Gansu Province in China's vast northwest, shadowing the farthest reaches of the Great Wall, the rugged wastes of the Gobi Desert, and the fabled Yellow River.
In July 2009, the path of totality will run directly along the valley of the mighty Yangtze River, bringing darkness to a broad cross-section of China's varied landscapes and cultures, from the highland Tibetan monasteries of Yunnan Province to the futuristic skyscrapers of Shanghai's Pudong District.

I am very excited to announce that I will personally lead special expeditions to view the 2008 and 2009 total solar eclipses. I have been working very closely with experienced "eclipse chasers" Bill Sorrells of the Peninsula Astronomical Society in San Jose, California and Brian H. Day, a NASA contractor at Ames Research Center, to develop the details of these adventures, including an exploratory trip to the fringes of the Gobi in June 2005 to personally inspect potential viewing sites for the 2008 eclipse.
Choose from a variety of tour packages offering you an in-depth experience of the adventure of China. Explore wonders from the Forbidden City to a remote Tibetan monastery, visit local people in their homes, cruise the famed Three Gorges of the Yangtze River, even attend the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
Please click on the eclipse maps below for more details, projected itineraries, and photos from our exploratory trip to the centerline of the 2008 eclipse. There is also a link you can use to be put on our mailing list for further information.
I hope you will be as excited about these tours as I am, and I hope very much to be able to meet you in China in 2008 and 2009!
